In 2011 I helped lead a team to compete for a Transit Cooperative Research Project (TCRP H-45).  This is one of many programs funded by the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The objective of this research was to develop a handbook that presented a framework for assessing the livability outcomes of transit corridor planning and decision making.  The framework includes methods for evaluating transit corridor-level livability outcomes and metrics that relate transit corridor planning to livability. The framework addresses the six livability principles developed by DOT, HUD, & EPA in their Partnership for Sustainable Communities.

It also provides practical planning and implementation strategies to enhance livability in transit corridors.   These methods, metrics, and strategies support transit planning, development of livable communities, & investment in associated infrastructure.

As of 2015, the research and project was completed, and the tool now called the Livability Calculator is available for use by city and regional planners through-out the US.
